After touching a lifetime high of 57,918.71 in early deals, Sensex closed 214.18 points or 0.37% lower at 57,338.21
All sectoral indices on the NSE barring Nifty Media closed in the green. Sustained buying momentum across all sectors was witnessed.
Sensex settled 175.62 points or 0.31% higher at 56,124.72, while the broader NSE Nifty gained 68.30 points or 0.41% to close at a record 16,705.20
Reliance Industries, closing over 1% higher, was the top Sensex gainer, followed by M&M, HCL Tech, Axis Bank, ICICI Bank and HUL
After hitting fresh lifetime high of 56,198.13 in early trade, Sensex ended 14.77 points or 0.03% lower at 55,944.21
The US markets ended higher on Monday on stronger-than-expected home sales data and full regulatory approval of Pfizer’s Covid-19 vaccine.
Sensex tumbled 215.12 points or 0.39% to close at 54,277.72, while the broader NSE Nifty dropped 56.40 points or 0.35% to 16,238.20
Market breadth was negative as 2,119 stocks declined on the BSE, while 1,137 advanced and 116 remained unchanged.
HDFC was the top Sensex gainer, surging around 5%, followed by Kotak Bank, ICICI Bank, SBI, HDFC Bank and Axis Bank
